An MFA thesis, Cultra is an effort to excavate the processes and approaches of countercultures. Through their idiosyncratic, and often antagonistic approach to design, countercultures have historically been able to subvert, confuse, and evolve graphic design to allow for new ideas and identities to represented within the practice. The goal of this project is not to advocate for
the aesthetics of one particular counterculture, but rather to shine a light on the importance of the countercultural approach.

The Cultra thesis book catalogs all of the project writing, interviews, design process, and visual research done for the project. The design of the book embodies the feeling of counterculture design without overtly referencing any specific movement or style.
